The highlight of our road trip was attending the Australian Opal Awards in Lightning Ridge, the most prestigious event on the national opal calendar. With a strong contingent of opal miners and designers from Andamooka and Coober Pedy, it was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues from across the industry, share stories from the field, and celebrate the artistry and innovation driving the opal sector forward.
While in town, we also spent time at the Lightning Ridge Opal Festival, Australia’s largest opal and gemstone event, exploring the stalls and catching up with miners, cutters, and jewellers from across the country. The festival showcased everything from rough parcels to exquisite finished jewellery — a real celebration of Australia’s opal heritage.
The Open Prestige Jewellery category at the Awards was won by “The Celestine” — an extraordinary double-sided piece created by Nadia Neuman of Mondial by Nadia in Sydney. Featuring a superb Andamooka crystal opal framed in diamonds and finished with opal-tipped gold tassels, the piece deservedly stole the spotlight. The win once again elevated Andamooka opal to the forefront of the international luxury market and reaffirmed why South Australian stones remain some of the most coveted in the world.
