The Andamooka Observatory is an off-grid art space/observatory that offers opal mining, astronomy, and tag-along tours.Our tours provide the time and space for you to relax, learn about opal mining, observe the night skies, and soak up the elements.

Opal Mining Day Tour
Want to know about opal mining? How to get started and where to go? How to get a claim? Good noodling spots? What are the rules?
Learn about Karkaroo the juvenile Andamooka Plesiosaur, ancient cephalopods, the Eromanga Sea, and South Australia’s only known dinosaur ‘Kakuru Kujani!
Local history and opal lore
The tour includes a visit to Cal the Stoner’s Outdoor Stonemasonry Studio and to the One Tree Hill and German Gully opal fields.
Daily 10 am & 2 pm

2-hour tour with local guides
Stargazing & Opal Noodling Nocturnal Tour
Tours include UV black lighting for opal, stargazing with telescopes, naked-eye astronomy, and a visit to One Tree Hill
Tours include the use of LED UV flashlights, torches, microscopes, binoculars, and telescopes.
Daily 8 pm
Adults $55 / Kids: $25 / Kids under 5 are free.
