Andamooka Airstrip Reactivation Update: The Andamooka Airfield survey was recently completed. Thanks to Richard and Bec from the Woomera Observatory and BHP for conducting the survey and mapping the terrain. Great effort to all those involved in the cleanup, volunteer Working Bees and supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. By 2025, we aim to have the Andamooka Airfield and infrastructure operational to the Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT standards. We aim to have a serviceable airstrip for landing planes to facilitate better medical response times and future tourism aspirations.
Urgent maintenance is required at the Andamooka Airfield to make it RFDS capable of improving the safety of the crew, passengers, aircraft, and operators for medical evacuation services.
The airfield is currently not serviceable for the RFDS.
Making the airfield operational would provide equitable access to RFDS community service aviation, health care, and delivery of essential goods, passengers, and services such as food supplies and health care.
The Andamooka Airfield is critical infrastructure and would reconnect Andamooka to surrounding regional aviation-capable communities across the Outback.
The Roxby Downs and Andamooka Aero Club, Woomera Observatory, Andamooka Observatory, Rotary Club of Roxby District and local volunteers are currently doing maintenance work.
