BREAKING BAND is officially locked in for Saturday 4 October, bringing a powerhouse live set packed with rock anthems from The Screaming Jets, The Angels, The Living End, Queen, Divinyls, Pat Benatar and more. Expect high-voltage energy and a night loud enough to shake the desert floor.

This year’s main stage builds on the momentum of Opal Evolution: Project High Frequency, our July sound and light test event at Cal the Stoner’s Outdoor Intricarved Stone Sculpture Studio — featuring A2B2, Teknights, Ahimsa and Metalman. That event fine-tuned our desert rig and set the stage for an even bigger show in 2025.

The Opal Evolution Festival, which Andamooka will host, was featured in the Coober Pedy Regional Times (29 July 2024 edition). Opal Evolution celebrates Andamooka’s unique opal fields, geological formations, and rich palaeontological connections. Through exhibitions and educational programs, it highlights the geological significance of the Andamooka Opal Fields and invites visitors to explore the region’s rich natural history.

First launched in 2024, Opal Evolution is a grassroots celebration of opal, fossils, deep time and outback creativity — blending immersive light projections, live music, workshops, kids’ activities and storytelling across a full long weekend.

Festival Dates: 3–5 October 2025
Location: Opal Creek Boulevard, Andamooka, South Australia

Supported By: Arts South Australia, the Regional Arts Fund, Creative Partnerships Australia, Country Arts SA, the Lang Family Foundation, Foundation SA, OSCA – Open Space Contemporary Arts, Leila Day Art & Opal, Andamooka Underground Art Gallery, Woomera Observatory, Andamooka Opal Showroom Underground Opal & Mineral Museum, Andamooka Observatory, Andamooka Primary School, and the Andamooka Opal Fields Tourism Association.

Stay tuned for artist announcements, workshop bookings and community activations — this year is going to be even bigger.
