Former Federal Senator Chris Schacht and grandson Zander recently joined us over 2 glorious nights for the Opal Mining 101 & 102 tours, sciencing, snacks and stargazing with Dave the Mad Scientist, Broccoli, Bec and Richard from the Woomera Baker Observatory. Chris is a former Minister of Science and Communications in the Hawke and Keating Governments. In the early 1990’s as Minister for Science, Chris strongly advocated for the development of an internationally competitive Australian space industry. Chris first visited Andamooka in 1969 and has made regular visits to the Coober Pedy and Andamooka Opal Fields.
