Congratulations to the ‘Andamooka Night Skies Tour & Camp Oven Cook-Out’ Chefs, to Tim and his team from the Andamooka Hospital Auxiliary for all their efforts in fundraising for the Andamooka Health Services! 🔭🍲🥘🌖 A big turn out and big fun evening! After feasting at the camp oven cookout, Paul Culliver from ABC North and West launched our National Science Week Event. Guest Astronomer Paul ‘Starman’ Curnow, Bec, Richard and Conan then hosted a journey through the Andamooka night skies using naked eye astronomy and telescopes to observe the Earth’s Moon, constellations, Jupiter and Saturn. We saw the Perseid meteor shower! Visitors went and checked out Karkaroo the Baby Andamooka Plesiosaur and other opalised marine reptiles at the Andamooka Opal Showroom Underground Opal & Mineral Museum. The ‘Scorpions Shine Like Stars’ activity with Arid Recovery was a huge success with the kids and adults alike. Everyone loves glowing scorpions. Our local astrophotographers Travis Hague and Adrian Scroop were on hand to give the visitors tips on astrophotography and astronomy.
