Andamooka Observatory is run by local opal miners and brings together Andamooka opal sales, tours, citizen science and events in the heart of the Andamooka Opal Fields.

Andamooka Opal

We specialise in Andamooka opal, with specimens, rough and cut opal available for sale. Our focus is on provenance; where possible, we record where the opal came from and the story behind it.

Andamooka opal includes crystal, matrix and solid opal and is known for its naturally low water content. We are also exploring spectrometry and other methods to record and understand Andamooka opal, bringing our opal sales and citizen science work together.

Opal Mining & Stargazing

Events, Art & Music

The Observatory is also a small event and creative space, hosting workshops, visiting artists, musicians, talks and other events throughout the year.

Getting Here

Andamooka is around 30 km from Roxby Downs. Visitors can also fly directly into Andamooka Airport (YAMK).
