Belemnite 48″ x 60″ resin on canvas
POA

A Belemnite is an extinct squid species. When they were cruising around the Ancient Inland Sea, it was over 100million years ago! Belemnites had hard shells, and today we find some of their remains as fossils and as opalised shells.
This artwork, Leila made after studying the ‘Virgin Rainbow’ – You have to visit the Museum of South Australia in Adelaide to see it in person. The Virgin Rainbow is one of the world’s rarest and most expensive opals. It is an opalised fossil of an ancient cuttlefish – Belemnite.
