After two years of meticulous restoration, Karkaroo, the baby Andamooka Plesiosaur, has returned home and is now proudly on display at the Andamooka Underground Art Gallery, within the Andamooka Opal Showroom Underground Opal & Mineral Museum.

Discovered in October 2016 at Tea Tree, just 8.5 metres underground, Karkaroo preserves the bones of a juvenile plesiosaur in vivid opal colour,  a rare window into Andamooka’s 110-million-year-old inland sea. Opalised fossils like this are among the rarest on Earth, and Andamooka is one of the only places in the world where they’re found.
