Last Sunday, the Andamooka Observatory brought Andamooka’s fascinating paleontological and geological history to life at the Arid Recovery Open Day! Visitors were treated to an exploration of fossils, opalized fossils, the stunning Andamooka Rainbow Matrix, and Andamooka Opals under the microscope, with many capturing incredible images of these wonders.

The event was a tremendous success, filled with learning and admiration for the remarkable research being done at Arid Recovery. A standout moment was Kokatha member Andrew Starkey’s Welcome to Country and insightful presentation on Kokatha culture and heritage, complete with a display of traditional artefacts.

A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Roxby District and the Roxby Downs Scouts for serving up a fantastic BBQ and managing the parking so smoothly!

A special shout-out to the Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation, Roxby Community Library, Bugs n Slugs, Friends of the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, SA Arid Lands Landscape Board, and Woolworths for their involvement and efforts. And of course, a massive WELL DONE to the Arid Recovery team for bringing it all together!
